Open warfare with Cathay was frequent and neither side has yet to gain any significant advantage. Most Baturus who have earned their name hailed from the age before the great wrap stone fell, when horses were still plentiful in Cathay as were the use of cavalry and chariots. Upon receiving their title, it replaces their original given name as a sign of mandatory respect for all who addresses them. As such, it's not uncommon for lower rank soldiers or captains to achieve this distinction than elite nobles who are far less likely to be in the thick of combat. Unlike many official titles that can be acquired by other means, Baturu is only awarded through military accomplishment.

Baturu, the Han Kou word for "brave" was a ancient honorary rank bestowed upon those who have proven themselves in battle with exemplary valor and bravery.
